Federal loans will always be around I'm sure BUT private student loans appear to be a dying breed. There's only about 3 or 4 lenders still offering PSL's however, they have all increased their credit requirements to 700+!!! What student has a credit score of that??? It doesn't matter who you go through for the federal loan as the rate will be the same and you will more than likely wind up consolidating after you graduate. But when it comes to private student loans you need to look at everything since it is a credit based loan. Make sure you file your fafsa and look for scholarships. There is a ton of "free money" out there if you look for it. You should only rely on Private student loans once you have exhausted all other federal and "free money" options. Great info!
